Healthy Minds

Healthy Minds is a school-based project which aims to support the emotional health and well being of children and young people. It puts emotional resilience at the heart of children’s health and well-being and recognises its impact on their learning, attainment, behaviour and future employability.

At Arbourthorne we promote good emotional health and well-being by valuing and respecting every individual.  We are committed to supporting  the mental health and emotional wellbeing of all our children and it is our aim to support children and families through difficulties and challenges they may have by taking a whole school/whole community approach.

On a day-to-day basis we help our children to identify their emotions and teach and model the strategies they can use to support themselves to self-regulate. We use our PSHE curriculum (see our  JIGSAW tab) to develop pupils’ confidence, resilience and knowledge about emotions so that they can keep themselves mentally healthy. This culture permeates our school life.

Developing resilient and useful citizens is key to the work in our school and the notion of developing the whole child is central to this. Our 8 Core Values underpin all aspects of life here at Arbourthorne.

For children who are finding life more difficult to navigate, the pastoral team deliver 1:1 and group interventions to support children with their emotional wellbeing. Our pastoral team supports and signposts families to services, which in turn supports pupils. Where there is need, we seek advice and support from professional services such as Haven House, Steps4ward and Unravel.

If you wish to speak to a member of our pastoral team  please do not hesitate to contact us.
