Children’s University
At Arbourthorne Community Primary School, we work closely with Sheffield Children’s University to actively encourage and celebrate children’s participation in extracurricular activities. We recognise the huge importance and value of learning that takes place outside the classroom. These activities help children to develop the essential skills they need to succeed in their learning, their future careers and their lives.
Earning Credits
Children can earn Children’s University credits for activities that take place at lunchtime, after school, on the weekends or in the holidays. All of our sports after school clubs are registered Children’s University activities, along with many other activities which take place at our school.

Children are awarded at bronze, silver and gold level depending on the number of hours they participate in extra curricular activities
Learning Destinations
To earn credits away from school at a registered Learning Destination, children need a Passport to Learning. These are available from the school office.
There are hundreds of Learning Destinations including brownies, scouts, dance, sports, art and music clubs, museums, libraries and even farms! If your children already attend activities, check whether they are a Learning Destination here - Learning Destination List by subject - Sept 2021.pdf
If they are, don’t forget to take your Passport to Learning! If not, show them your Passport, tell them about Sheffield CU, and ask them to join! Awards Ceremonies
As children collect their credits for the activities they are taking part in, they will receive awards for reaching certain milestones.
Once children earn an award at Gold level, they are invited to attend a special awards ceremony at a prestigious Sheffield venue, such as City Hall. Any Silver and Bronze level awards children have earned are sent to school to be presented and celebrated here.
Sheffield Children’s University provides children and young people with the opportunity to:
- Join in and have a go
- Make friends
- Learn new things
- Do better at school
- Develop life skills
- Collect CU credits
- Earn awards for doing the things they love
So make sure to get involved!
